Bioanalytical Core Laboratory
The
objective of the core facility is to provide bioanalytical technology
services and help investigators to achieve the research objectives
by using biochemical testing. The Pediatric Clinical Research Center's
Bioanalytical Core Laboratory is located within the clinical laboratory
on the 2nd floor Main Hospital Building. Services
of the Bioanalytical core lab are available to investigators at
CNMC, as well as to outside clients, on a fee-for-service basis.
The
laboratory provides sophisticated biochemical assays and is dedicated
to the development, validation and application of bioanalytical
methods in support of clinical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic
studies. Analysis of metabolites can be accomplished from a few
drops of blood or urine blotted on paper. New assays can be applied
or developed using the technology or equipment listed below.
- Method
development for established and experimental drugs or other analysis
of interest.
- Method
validation
- Sample
analysis from clinical studies
- Confirmation
of mass and/or purity of products resulting from synthesis or
in-vitro metabolism studies
- Chiral
assays
- Separation
and collection of chiral enantiomers
- Immunoassays
- Use
of HPLC as sample clean-up for immuno-assays
The
laboratory maintains the equipment listed below:
- 4
GC-mass spectrometers
- 1
HPLC mass spectrometer
- 2
TANDEM mass spectrometer
- automated
amino acid analyzer
- automated
immunoassay analyzer
Staff
is available to discuss the aims of your project and how the bioanalytical
core lab can help you to achieve your research goals. Larger scope
projects may need to be set up as a collaborative effort and should
be discussed with the Center Director. If you are interested in
using the core facilities, please call to set up a meeting with
the core laboratory Director, Steven J. Soldin, Ph.D. at Tel. 202
884-2096 or e-mail: ssoldin@cnmc.org.
