Dr.
Tuchman holds the Mary Elizabeth McGehee Joyce Chair in Genetics
Research at Children's National Medical Center and is Professor
of Pediatrics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the George
Washington University School
of Medicine. He is Vice Chairman for Research in the Department
of Pediatrics and Scientific Director of the Children's Research
Institute. Dr. Tuchman conducts translational research in biochemistry
and molecular biology of nitrogen metabolism and inborn errors of
metabolism. His work is supported by grants from the NIH and he
has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles. In addition to being
the Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center, Dr.
Tuchman is the Principal Investigator of the NCRR funded (K12) Pediatric
Clinical Research Scholars program Award in Washington, DC.

Naomi
L.C. Luban, MD, is the Division Chief and Chair of Laboratory Medicine
and Pathology, Director of Transfusion Medicine and the Edward J.
Miller Blood Donor Center, and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs at
Children's National Medical Center. She is a tenured Professor of
Pediatrics and Pathology at George Washington University School
of Medicine. She received her doctor of medicine degree at
Mount Sinai School of Medicine and did fellowship training at Cornell
University, Memorial Sloan Kettering and Rockefeller University.
She began her research career in developmental hematopoeisis and
clinical trials in Thalassemia and Hemophilia under the mentorship
of some of the first pediatric clinical trialists in the United
States. Her current NHLBI-funded research focuses on transfusion-transmitted
infections in pediatric populations and in other adverse consequences
of transfusion in neonates and chronically transfused children.
She is the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator in
research supported by NHLBI, MCHB, CDC and NIDDK. Besides serving
as Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Clinical Research
Center, Dr. Luban supervises a junior faculty mentorship program
and is the Associate Program Director of the K12 funded Clinical
Research Scholars program.
